SARAH G-LIVE! :)

September 30, 2012
The Sarah G. Live is just plain…plain AMAZING! This is my first time to watch in a studio, and yay, the experience was really fun!

We got at Starbucks, ABS-CBN at 3pm to meet up with Sir Virgilio “Boy” Decena, Kim’s contact. We had a little chit-chat and picture-taking and told us a bit of the safety measures inside the studio and also told us that we can’t have the studio tour (that really broke our hearts; I wanted to see Daniel and Coco so bad. HAHA) Well, anyway, as we were enjoying our Frappes, Miss Gina Pareño passed by, making us all stars trucked, making us want to take a picture with her yet nobody wanting to ask permission. Good thing Sir Boy asked is for us and told Miss Gina, “Uy, Gina, teka, papicture daw sila.” And we there, shocked, got all like “Wow, close.”

At 5pm, we walked our way to the audience entrance. Painstakingly waited, irritated, because of the muddled performance the guards/personnel showed us.  It was very evident that we were the first ones to write in the audience list, Mich was 1st. However, when they asked us to form a line, yes, they called us first but then one of the audiences shouted at the guards in front our faces, saying “Hindi kaya sila nauna! Kadadating lang nila kaya dito.” (I got really pissed off, wanting to say, “Excuse me, anong definition niyo ng ‘ngayon lang’? Eh halos mamulikat na nga kami kakatayo dito ng ilang oras.” But then, I controlled myself, remembering we just got off from our Life in the Spirit Seminar, making me evoke the Gift of Patience. HAHA).  So we went at the end of the line. “Okay lang yan.” We said, calming ourselves.
We waited at the audience entrance and of course while waiting, we got bored so took tons of pictures
and played with the cam! girls will be girls! :))

After 2 hours, we got in the studio. And wow, just wow, we were all amazed, and shivered (literally. Ang lamig lang sobra.) As we were lining up, one of the media persons called on Mich and said, “Dito ka sa harapan.” Then pointed at me and said, “Ikaw din. Ung nakasalamin.” I didn’t really know what to feel. Sad that I wasn’t seating with my other group mates, nervous that I’m too close to the stage and of course, happy because I was just a row away from the performers! (Papa Chen!)

This is what it looked like inside the studio. It was surprisingly small so it was only a small audience
I noticed that there was a television that shows what is being aired in ABS-CBN and as well as GMA. Hmmmm /:)

When we got in the studio, they assigned seats to everyone, they were very organized and strict about using the cameras, which as reasonable. They gave us instructions on how we should clap and shout, respond and avoid using phones, I wouldn't say it was scripted but they just want everything to be organized since it was live and there's no room for mistakes. There  guy who gave us instructions also entertained us, since they let us in 1 hour or more before the show, they didn't want us to get bored so he made us laugh while giving instructions, he made us feel comfortable, which was really nice. There cameras all over, different kinds and positioned in different angle, it was really cool!

The studio was huge and really cold. My group mates and I were separated during the designation of seats. But it’s okay at least we had the chance to watch the show. First of we had a taping, I'm quite confused. They first record a scene where in Sarah was saying goodbye.. After recording that scene, everything was in chaos because the staff started to prepare the props for the live show, that night the theme was Britney Spears, the setting is a jungle, and they have done it in a jiffy.

The show has started with an explosive introduction by Ms. Sarah G. it was really fun inside; everyone was clapping their hands and singing along with the song. During commercial breaks there is a comedian that would entertain the crowd, He is very entertaining. He's quite an observant when he notice something out of the blue he would give a sarcastic comment. I observe that everyone was really fast in doing their stuff in the studio, even the artist were really quick in changing their outfits. The guests in the show were very entertaining especially when they had this re-enactment of a drama it made me laugh.

PAPA CHEN!! :")

HOSTS: LUIS MANZANO AND ROBI DOMINGO! :")

SARAH'S GUESTS:

Ate Gay, Kaye Brosas, X Factor Finalist, G-Force

Gab Valenciano

 BB Gandang Hari

The performances were breath-taking! Sarah Geronimo really is a great performer, she's a total package, singer, dancer, actor and entertainer :)

Experience:

Superb! Yes, this is a truly amazing experience. From the photo op with Miss Gina Pareno, to the passing by of different artists beside where I’m seated, to seeing Richard Yap and Sarah Geronimo (crushes!!) in person, to bonding with my group mates, to commuting from Taft to ABS-CBN, up to being seen on TV and being text bashed by friends asking if I was that one they saw on sarah G. Live. (Feeling ko artista na ‘ko). This is truly an enjoyable experience. Thanks to Sir Nath, our professor, for requiring us to have this activity. This experience made me excited for the media industry world! I so want to be a floor director. Truly inspiring!
-Klara Martinez

To sum it all up everything was a blast. The show is fun and exciting. Everyone is enjoying themselves and seeing the artist up-close was really an amazing experience. The staff were awesome it made me realize that it’s not easy to work in a TV station as I noticed everyone is working their arse off, so that they can come up with a successful show that the audience would love.
-Kimberly Almosa

It was definitely an awesome experience, this is by far the best requirement that a professor has asked us to do. :P  It was my first time at ABS-CBN as well as watch /attend something like this. It was really cool and I would love to work or have my training here. It was exciting, I never thought it would be so much fun because I'm not really a fan of Sarah Geronimo. It was fun observing the crew, audiences and the studio itself. Even though we waited for some time, it was worth the wait! :) I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS BECAUSE OF PAPA CHEN, ROBI DOMINGO AND LUIS MANZANO! <3 HAHA!

"The simple joys of an Ad Person"

AN INTERVIEW WITH AN ADVERTISING PROFESSIONAL

We were honored that we had a chance to interview Ms. Ces Estrella who works as an Account Manager at SLG (Sinson Lacsano Group), she is a former Scholastican and actually finished with the course BSC Marketing, in our interview you will find out why her career path has changed and also her journey as an Advertising Professional.

Insights:

In my opinion, advertising industry is a vague matter to deal with. I have said this because I believe what I know about advertising can be considered general truths, nothing deeper than the usual. After interviewing Ms. Ces Estrella, I was really enlightened about the ins and outs of this industry or at least I was oriented about the cover all phenomenas that are happening in the kind of world that is she now staying for almost 30 years. I feel fortunate because I have heard useful tips and advices from her, knowing that she is the Account Director of SLG Advertising. Having said that, I once thought that she manages the marketing side of the company. But it is not only like that, it is just one side of her job. One thing that I really like about what she shared to u
s is that her position requires her not only organizational skills but she also reveals that her job also involves her to have a creative eye for beauty. She also shared that “being creative”, (which is a must in this industry) is something that can be developed. At any rate, I felt a little hope for myself. I guess there is still a chance for me to improve my creative side. Truly, Ms. Estrella inspired me to be more motivated and see the advertising industry with soaring possibilities.

For me, I've learned that in every job, you have to face lots of trial, but in every trial you'll discover that it helps you to be more successful and achieve what you really wanted. There are things in life that you shouldn't give up on easily, sometimes you have to try really hard to find out you can actually achieve it and you'll be surprised of your own capacity and abilities.

The interview with Ms. Ces Estrealla was really inspiring, considering that she is a former
Scholastican, it gives me the pride and joy of being a Scholastican too. I'm actually considering Advertising as my major in Mass Communication, but I'm also having second thoughts but with this interview, I had a clearer vision of the world of Advertising and I'm now actually planning to take it up.
I want the kind of success she has, I know it can be achieved by really loving and being passionate in your field of work. This made me realize that I really had to choose a course that I would be very comfortable and happy with. The interview actually got me excited to work already the experiences she had and the different personalities of clients she deals with everyday excites me. She is such an inspiration, I hope I would have the kind of passion she
has and all her skills. I know I will still develop my skills, I'm still growing and I’m definitely willing to learn more

Radio Station Visit

Manila Broadcasting Company

MBC
THE PHILIPPINES’ LARGEST RADIO NETWORK

This was our first visit on a radio station; our group had chosen to visit DZRH because it’s the oldest radio station in the Philippines by the KBP or Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.

We had observed the show “Pangga Ruth Abao Live!” when the show had started we listened to the topic being discussed by Ms.Ruth Abao. The topic was all about Immigrants she is with a guest Mr. Chris they were both having discussions and they answered questions from the text messages of the people who had concern about the topic. It was long discussion we think it took one and half hour in just one topic but it was not a serious talk both of them joke around and its fun listening to them.

This time we had an opportunity to use the equipments in the booth. Kuya Arnold and Kuya “Boy” Amok let us use the equipment they taught us some basic things in the booth. They taught us on how to switch on and off the mic of the Broadcast Journalist because they often utter foul words which often go on air. It was a nerve racking experience even though we’re just going to switch the buttons.

We then had a tour on the radio drama department. We met some awesome people in that department and they let us take a sneak peek inside the room. Also we took pictures with the cast; unfortunately we didn’t get to hear them because they were having a break that time. Funny, as we recall what happen Sir Eric Lucero was the one who was taking pictures, it’s as if he owned the camera, he took various shots but to our surprise the photos he took were actually good shots.

Sir Eric Lucero’s shots

After visiting the radio drama, we went to another booth we actually don’t know what’s the booth’s name. But this one was different from the other one that we had earlier. The staff there was lecturing us on how the live stream works they also explained different camera angles and where we should focus the camera. Our mind was blown away because inside the booth there were different kinds of buttons and a lot of TV screens. Honestly we had a hard time understanding what they were saying to us. For media novices like us, it's hard to comprehend such terms unlike to those who are professionals. Nevertheless, we’re still happy we had that lecture.

Lastly we did a photo up session with the staff and Ms. Ruth Abao. The radio station visit was a fun experience, the staffs were very accommodating.  In spite of the short time given to us, we are ecstatic to learn new things from this kind of experience. We are really hoping that we can use all the learning’s that they have shared to us in the near future.
